The color of next year is installing a sense of calmness and trust which is much needed in times as hectic as these. Times where we are disappointed by otherwise trustworthy public institutions all over the world.
The Pantone Color Institute just announced PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue as the Pantone Color of the Year 2020. The selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact color, relevant social media platforms and even upcoming sporting events that capture worldwide attention. Here at Copenhagen Design Merchants, we have seen the color becoming more prominent among designers and trendspotters, and we think it is a good choice to highlight a color that promotes thought and after-thought in times where we are all looking at ways to protect our world environment. We also witness events where otherwise trustworthy institutions shock and disappoint us, like for example international banks participating in schemes that empty state tax-institutions (tax-payers money), the leaders of countries supporting the burning of the Amazon, and a member of the British monarchy being released from all public duties. Just to name a few.
Well, no more negative vibes. Let us together enjoy all the positive sentiments in the Classic Blue color, and use it in interior decoration, art and maybe new and fancy food?
