Carl Hansen & Søn’s evolution has been deeply influenced by their long-term relationship with one of the greatest designers of all time: Hans J. Wegner.
The creative partnership began in 1949, when Carl Hansen’s son Holger Hansen took a chance on the then-unknown designer, and Wegner developed a successful furniture series that included the now-iconic Wishbone Chair.
This collaboration and the many that followed demonstrated what can be achieved when unprecedented design and uncompromising production come together.

With a form that is uniquely its own, the iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair by Hans J. Wegner holds a special place in the world of modern design. When designing the CH24, Wegner chose to combine the back- and armrest into a single piece. To give stability to the steam-bent top and ensure comfortable support, Wegner developed the characteristic Y-shaped back that the Wishbone Chair is named after.
